Hitmen Sneak By Firebirds, 5-4
|
The Washington Hitmen defeated the Phoenix Firebirds, 5-4. Doing his part was first baseman Christian Walker, who was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Keegan Akin snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 1.1 innings. He's now 7-3 on the season. The win elevated the Hitmen to 77-76.
Walker had a timely hit for Washington in the bottom of the eighth. With Washington trailing 4-3, he turned a first pitch sinker into a 2-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season, making it 5-4, Washington.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Washington manager John Anderson. "It's usually not just one thing."
