The Carolina Riptides rode a solid performance from 31-year-old starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery to a win, beating the Pittsburgh Ironmen, 3-1, at IBM Field. Montgomery, now 15-5, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Matt Brash earned his 30th save in 36 chances.

Brett Baty helped out the Carolina cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the third baseman drew 1 walk.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Baty said after the game.

Carolina goes to 86-68. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.
