Swanson Leads Ironmen to Win
|
The 3-hit performance of Dansby Swanson helped the Pittsburgh Ironmen beat the Carolina Riptides, 5-2. Griffin Canning, the winner, is now 8-13. He struck out 4 and walked 0 over 5.2 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The Ironmen raised their record to 63-92.
Joey Wiemer had a big 2-run double for the Ironmen in the top of the third inning. With Pittsburgh leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Connor Brogdon and swatted a double to center. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ironmen ahead, 4-0.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Swanson told the Pittsburgh Chronicle.
