Hitmen Victors, 3-1, at St Louis
|
Washington pitcher Reid Detmers had a large part in his team subduing the St Louis Sluggers, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Detmers, now 11-12, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Hitmen sit at 82-78.
The Hitmen got a big at-bat from catcher Yan Gomes. For the game, Gomes was 1-3 with a double. In the top of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 8th double of the season gave Washington a 1-0 lead.
Gomes called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
