Stars Score Late to Nip Hogs, 5-4
|
Despite a great performance by Toronto designated hitter Christian Yelich, the Cincinnati Stars defeated the Hogs by the score of 5-4 at Great American Ball Park. Yelich went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Cincinnati reliever Tyler Ferguson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Jesse Chavez took the loss. The win has Cincinnati at 19-29.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 23-year old catcher Francisco Alvarez had a real shot to win the game. Toronto pitcher Jordan Hicks was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Alvarez hit a run-scoring single. The Stars had a walk-off triumph.
In postgame remarks, Alvarez simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
