Mikey Romero sparked his Fort Wayne Bucks past the pesky Kane County Cougars in a closely-contested Round 1.

Fort Wayne topped Kane County 5-2 at Bucks Stadium to decide the series, 3-1

For his efforts, Romero was rewarded with the series MVP trophy for his .467 batting average, 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

"You never want to leave anything on the field," Romero said. "You never want to miss a play of defense you could have made, or give up an extra base you could have gotten, because in a series this tight you never know what you'll need to win."

The Fort Wayne Bucks will play against the Springfield Sluggers in the next round. Springfield won their series against the El Paso Diablos 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
