Destroyers Dominate, Sweep Round 1
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Carolina League Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different.

The Newport News Destroyers swept aside the Kingston Buccaneers to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 7-4 score at Ballpark of Kingston.

The series MVP was left fielder Kyler Fedko, who hit .500 with a .588 on-base percentage. He had 4 home runs, drove in 10 RBI and scored 5 runs.

"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."

The Newport News Destroyers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Easton Grays - Prince William Panthers series. Prince William leads the series 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
