Hits Galore: Berti Drills 5 Hits Thursday, April 23rd , 2026 A jubilant Jon Berti joined the postgame press conference at Fenway Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Boston Minutemen pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Chicago Explorers second baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 3-2 Explorers win. "He made it look easy," said Tony Byrne, manager of the Minutemen. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Jon Berti singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, doubled in the 10th and doubled in the 13th. For the year, Berti is hitting .275 with no home runs.
