Canton Halts Liranzo's Hitting Steak
Wednesday, August 20th , 2025
The streak has been snapped.
Thayron Liranzo failed to get a hit in today's game against the Canton Cutters, bringing his 30-game hitting spree to an end. The 22-year-old Trenton catcher was 0-for-3, but the Thunder got the win and defeated the Cutters, 3-1.
"I'm not disappointed at all -- I had a great run," Liranzo said. "I got to 30 games. I got my name into an elite group with a bunch of good ballplayers. What's there to complain about?"
This season, Liranzo is batting .402 with 10 home runs. He has scored 32 runs and driven in 34.

Brown Must Sit Out 4 Games
Wednesday, August 20th , 2025
Devonte Brown of the Plattsburgh Beacons has been reprimanded and given a 4-game suspension for a shouting match with the plate umpire during a recent game at Black Bears Ballpark with the Champagne Black Bears. The Beacons center fielder said he didn't touch the umpire, but the umpire insisted he did.
"I didn't see it, I didn't feel it," Brown said. "I was trying everything I could not to make contact with him. The league always sides with umpires. There is no use to appeal."
On the season, Brown is batting .151 with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs. He has played in 21 games.

3 Bombs for Ronny Mauricio
Monday, August 18th , 2025
Madison Millers shortstop Ronny Mauricio sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Champagne Black Bears, Mauricio told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Mauricio pushed the Millers past the Black Bears, 13-7. To go along with the homers, he collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Mauricio told reporters after the game.
Ronny Mauricio hit a two-run home run off Luis Patino in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Luis Patino in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jose Ruiz in the 5th and grounded out in the 6th.
This year, Mauricio has hit at a .333 clip with 12 RBIs, 4 home runs and 7 runs scored.
