Danville-Alexandria Brawl, Whitley and Gillispie Suspended Tuesday, July 7th , 2026 Yesterday at Dukes Ballpark Garrett Whitley and Connor Gillispie got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Danville Raiders and Alexandria Dukes. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Whitley will have to sit out 6 while Gillispie would be given a 12-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Whitley is hitting .370 this year with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .473, 36 walks and scored 59 times. Gillispie has taken the mound for 6 relief appearances this season, nailing down 1 save while notching a 0-0 record with a 3.45 ERA. The Alexandria reliever has limited opposing batters to a .262 batting average. |
