Bench Goes 5-for-8
Saturday, April 25th , 2026
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Justin Bench -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Ballpark of St. Lucie and paced the 10-9 Sand Gnats win over the Lakeland Catfish.
After his dynamite batting performance, the St. Lucie second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 8 tries and put his name in the record book. Justin Bench singled in the 1st, tripled in the 2nd, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, struck out in the 10th, flied out in the 11th and hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 13th.
Bench is hitting .277 this year with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has 18 hits in 65 at-bats, 4 walks and a .338 on-base percentage. Bench has played in 14 games.
