Oliva Shows Off, Hits for Cycle
Jared Oliva was jubilant as the Newport News Destroyers left the field with a win, 14-3, over the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He had every right to be.

The 28-year-old right fielder hit for the cycle at Ballpark of Wilmington, had a 4-for-6 game and added 3 RBI and 3 runs to boot.

"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Oliva said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."

Newport News manager was "proud" of the right fielder's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.

"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," the skipper said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."

Jared Oliva struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Samuel Strickland in the 3rd, tripled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

So far this season, Oliva has recorded a .336 batting average with 111 hits, 10 home runs, 58 RBIs, 69 runs scored and a .423 OBP.
