Fairchild Shows Off, Hits for Cycle
Stuart Fairchild did everything he could for the Berkeley Blaze -- literally.

The 29-year-old center fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Blaze, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Vancouver Canadians, 10-5, at Blaze Ballpark.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Fairchild reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Fairchild banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Stuart Fairchild singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Jaime Barria in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

Fairchild currently has a .295 batting average with 56 hits, 12 homers, 33 RBIs, 32 runs scored and a .382 OBP.
