Schwindel Rips El Paso for 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Frank Schwindel joined the postgame press conference at Grand Rapids Grounds to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the El Paso Diablos pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Grand Rapids Saints first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 7-3 Saints win.
"He made it look easy," said , manager of the Diablos. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Frank Schwindel singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Garrett Burhenn in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This year, Schwindel is hitting .449, produced 34 RBIs and 12 home runs, scored 26 times and gotten on base at a .500 rate.
